Bulldozers destroy 10,000 cigarette packs near Minsk (video)
Nearly 10,000 packs of contraband cigarettes, seized by the Belarusian customs, yesterday were destroyed at a dump site near Minsk, reports Belta.
Customs authorities in Belarus carry out such actions on a regular basis. Apart from cigarettes, they destroy alcohol, medicines and foodstuffs. Soon, the customs plan to restroy a huge batch of contraband dry fruits.
As of June 25, Belarus customs confiscated almost 12 million cigarett sticks. They link an increase in smuggling with the economic crisis.
Cigarettes are mainly smuggled into Belarus from Russia and Ukraine where one pack costs around $1. Afterwards, cigaretts are transited through Belarus to EU where the price grows up to $6-7.
