Buraukin: Writers sign under petition to release Nyaklyaeu
Belarusian writers are outraged by the brutal beating and arrest of their colleague Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, a presidential candidate. They have writted a petition in which they demand to provide Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu with the necessary medical care and release him immediately.
The petition has been signed by Valiantsin Akudovich, Ryhor Baradulin, Uladzimir Arlou, Nil Hilevich, Liavon Volski, Henadz Buraukin and others.
Henadz Buraukin has told Euroradio that this petition is in the first place addressed to the Belarusian society and the international community:
"My close friends, the outsanding representatives of the Belarusian literature sign for Valodzia's release [Nyaklyaeu - ERB] without hesitation, to try and save his life. We would like this "scream" to be heard, both here, in Belarus, and abroad. As if it is not heard, I don't know what to do and how to go on living at this land...".
Buraukin said they were still collecting signatures under the petition.
