Constitution Day marked today
Belarus celebrates a state holiday - Constitution Day - on March 15.The first Basic Law of the Republic of Belarus was adopted on this very day in 1994.
Let us remind you, it was adopted by the Supreme Council headed by the then-speaker Mechyslau Hryb. The document bears his signature.
The Constitution was amended in November 1996 due to the initiative of the state leader. The new version gives more rights to a President and limits the authorizations of the Parliament.
Besides, Aliaksandr Lukashenka has greeted the Belarusian people on today's holiday. He has noted that "The Basic Law allows us to move towards creating of a strong state with a highly developed modern economy, an original national culture, and a respectable foreign policy", – BELTA reports.
