Council of Europe to start cooperation with Belarus only after political prisoners are released
The leader of the steering committee of the movement “For Freedom” Alyaksandr Milinkevich has taken part in the summit of the European People's Party in Lisbon. The Belarusian politician conducted negotiations with the President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering and the head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Rene van der Linden. Milinkevich also met the Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, the Georgian President Mihail Saakishvili and a possible future Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko.
Milinkevich urged European politicians to start a dialogue with the Belarusian authorities only after the 12 EU conditions are met.
The head of the PACE Rene Van der Linden assured the Belarusian politician that the Council of Europe stuck to the EU terms and would start cooperating only after our country made some steps towards democratization and released political prisoners, reports the press service of Alyaksandr Milinkevich.
