Cross at Lukishskaya Square in Vilnius is safe now
A new contest of reconstruction of Lukishskaya Square in Vilnius has started in Lithuania. The project is aimed to commemorate the fighters for Lithuanian independence. Let us remind you, almost none of the projects submitted for the contest last time prescribed preserving of the memorial cross and sign, dedicated to the rebellion of 1863. The Belarusian community magaged to defend the cross and the sign after a series of negotiations and the street action called "Chain of Rebels", informs the initiative "StudAlliance".
The coordinator of the Belarusian initiative "StudAlliance" Kiryl Atamanchyk has directed an appeal to the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania asking to consider the interests of Belarusians. The official response claimed that the cross and the sign dedicated to the leaders of the 1863 rebellion had been included into the national register of cultural and historical heritage of Lithiania and was therefore protected by the law.
