Demographic situation in Belarus has improved, says health ministry

The demographic situation in this country is stabilizing, with the number of births steadily increasing over the mortality rate, according to the health ministry of Belarus. The health ministry reports that 51152 babies were born in the first six months of 2008 or 2.3 percent up against the same period last year. 746 people or 1.1 percent less have died in the first half of this year.

Ihar Brouka, the head of medical care department at the Ministry of Health, thinks that "positive trends in the major medical and demographic processes are the result of the government policy in this field", writes newspaper Respublika.
