Dentists get license for alcohol, tobacco sales in Brest
A dental clinic in Brest is licensed to sell alcohol and tobacco.
The framed license is hanging on the wall of the dental clinic. Its says that "dental clinic Westmedservice is permitted to sell alcohol and tobacco products". Firm director Larysa Melnichuk felt confused saying she did not how to explain and asked her chief accountant Sviatlana Ivanauna who had been in charge of applying for the license:
"In order to process the documents, we approached the department of trade. They have such a form, dealing with accompanying goods. On the whole, we do not sell alcohol or cigarettes. You should not be worried. This is just a universal license. It says: retail and catering".
Euroradio: Doe it mean that after having installed a tooth, you give food immediately?
Sviatlana Ivanauna: "We give food and drinks and then a stick (laughing)… No, we do not do that. We deal only with teeth".
The license is signed by Valery Laptseikin, the first deputy chairman of the Brest City Hall. He told Euroradio as follows:
"Any company is entitled to selling alcohol if certain requirements are met. What is the difference?"
Euroradio: I also asked them that if they were licensed to offer ritual services, would they do it? They said no.
Laptseikin: "There is a statute of an enterprise which lists all types of activities that it can carry out. If it is a medical center, it does not mean that it cannot do transportation of passengers. As for alcohol sales, the first requirement is to have trade spaces of not less than 70 sq.m. Secondly, there should be security. There are no requirments for tobacco sales. Every kiosk sells cigarettes".
By the way, the license at the state-owned Brest Regional Hospital has no mention of tobacco or alcohol (photo).
