Drug dealers to face harsher sentences in Belarus

Belarus is introducing harsher sentences for drug trafficking, with the associated amendments in the country's Penal Code to come into effect in April.
Those convicted for the sale of synthetic narcotics will face prison terms of up to eight years. At the same time, the maximum prison term for the sale of herbal psychotropic substances will not exceed 5 years. Their use will not be considered a felony offence.

In this regard, doctors issue insistent recommendations to drug addicts to undergo treatment at rehabilitation centers. The treatment will be anonymous, reports ONT.

A total of registered drug addicts in Belarus is over 11,000.
