EU not to resume sanctions against Belarusian administration
The European Union will prolong the current suspension of sanctions imposed on the Belarusian administration next week. However, they will not be cancelled in connection with insufficient progress of political reforms in our country. It is said in the fair copy of the statement prepared in connection with it, informs Gazeta.ru referring to the BBC. Let us remind you that the EU administration suspended the sanctions in October 2008 to encourage reforms in Belarus.
According to the preliminary statement that has to be approved by heads of EU Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the suspension of sanctions should be prolonged until next October. However, they can still be resumed. In particular, the EU is not satisfied with the current Election Code, observation of human rights and existence of capital punishment in Belarus.
