European parliament to discuss Belarus political prisoners
Debates on the political situation in Europe will be held today and tomorrow at the European Parliament. The situation with the political prisoners in Belarus will also be disscussed in Brussels, reports Charter'97. The leaders of the opposition parties from Belarus -- Anatol Lyabedzka, Vintsuk Vyachorka, Siarhei Kalyakin -- are invited to attend the European Parliament's session. Alyaksei Kavalets from the For Freedom movement will travel to Brussels instead of the organization leader, Alexander Milinkevich.
The chairman of the United Civic Party, Anatol Lyabedzka who is banned from leaving the country, has headed to Brussels via Moscow. He told Charter'97 that the Belarusian oppositionists are expected to focus on the issue of political prisoners. The president of the European Parliament recently issued a statement, calling for the immediate release of all the prisoners of conscience in Belarus.
