European Parliament to discuss possible sanctions against Minsk
The European Parliament will conduct a special session on the situation in Belarus on January 12. Representatives of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs, the sub-committee on human rights, and the EP delegations to Euronest and Belarus will take part in the session. It is expected that a number of the Belarusian opposition leaders will arrive.
The EP's press-center informs with a reference to the Chairman of this structure Jerzy Buzek that the agenda of the session includes consideration of conducting and consequences of the presidential election in Belarus, and use of excessive and non-proportional force by the Belarusian authorities.
The agenda also includes the issue of possible sanctions against Belarus.
