Expert: Many Polish companies eye Belarus market for investments

The Polish-Belarusian economic relations are developing in a positive way, with many Polish companies eyeing investments opportunities in the Belarusian market, Wojcech Borodicz-Smolinski from the Warsaw-based Center for International Relations, said in an interview with the Polish news agency PAP. The political ties between the two countries are lagging behind the economic relations, and the situation with the unrecognized Union of Poles in Belarus does not help improve the political contacts, he said. Borodicz-Smolinksi reckons this issue was "politicized too much" in Poland, and that does not help in resolving this dispute.

Regnum news agency reports the expert does not rule out the Belarusian authorities could eventually legalize the both pro-governmental and unofficial unions of Poles. He remains sceptical the two unions could merge.
