Francisak Vyachorka calls on U.S. government to support independent media in Belarus
Belarusian politician Francisak Vyachorka has called on the United States government to support independent media and youth organizations in Belarus. He has been on a visit to the US at the invitation of the Institute for Democracy in Eastern Europe, reports Belapan. The youth leader met representatives of the US Department of State, the Helsinki Commission, National Democratic Institute and International Republican Institute.
According to the politician, the representatives of the State Department were mostly interested in the future presidential elections and the participation of the opposition in the polls. Vyachorka told Americans that youth orgganizations have a common strategy and that they are going to work for the street mobilization. He was asked how the United States could help. Vyachorka says that he was asking to support independent media, in the first place Belsat TV and Radio Svaboda. "Everyone I met in New York were expressing support to pro-democracy forces. America will continue supporting those who struggles with dictatorship in Belarus", said Vyachorka.
