Gas conflict with Russia is not political, says Belarus foreign ministry
The conflict over gas payments with Russia is not political, Belarus' foreign ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh said in a statement on June 17. The issue is about settling the contract relations in the framework of operation of two commercial entities, Belapan quoted the diplomat as saying. This is the first official reaction of Minsk to the situation over the payments for the Russian gas.
The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom on June 15 warned Belarus that gas supplies would be cut on June 21 since the debt of $200 million is yet to be paid by Belarus.
