Headmaster resigns over opposition supporter's eviction
Volha Syankova, the headmaster of School No 4 in Salihorsk, has resigned from her post in protest to the eviction of Ivan Shyla, an activist with the Young Front youth opposition group, before his last graduation exam. The eviction was pushed for by a commission from Minsk. Volha Syankova confirmed to the European Radio for Belarus that her resignation was linked with the eviction of Ivan Shyla.
"I am not the headmaster any longer. I am retiring. Today, it is impossible to work in education. I am totally discouraged to work in education", she said.
Volha Syankova served as the school's headmaster since 1995. She managed to keep her school one of the top three schools in the city.
