High-school student penalized for putting dating agency link to his web site
In order to boost publicity for his www.mybrest.net, Andrei decided to post a link to the Russian dating site http://mamba.ru, where it was easy to register.
“The simplest thing is to get registered. Afterwards, you are given a code which has to be added to the site. Frankly speaking, I didn’t really monitor the number of visitors who came in with the aim of dating, but I think it didn’t really boost the rating,” Andrei says.
Approximately one week after, Andrei received a phone call from the IT crime police task force and asked to visit their office on the next day.
“I went there and they showed me a protocol which contained my site’s screen-shots and all my personal details. I don’t know how they would get them, because my nickname is the most what one can track down in the internet. Nevertheless, they had all my passport details, telephone numbers, address and the number of school I was studying at. Apparently, they know what they are doing”.
The judge ruled that Andrei be fined Br700,000 and allowed him to pay off in monthly installments, because Andrei was still at the 11th grade of a high-school and did not work.
“I was sentenced to a fine of Br700,000 but allowed to pay in installments, some Br50-100,000 monthly. Eventually, the usher had to finish up his paperwork, so I was told to pay the whole amount. I had to pay about $200 at once”.
It is noteworthy that the case against Andrei Fedasevich was opened one month after the president’s decree on trafficking in people came out.
“I guess I am the only person in this country who was tried under this law. On the other hand, I have had no problem with my site since then”.
