Homel activist fined for pre-electoral agitation

A coordinator of creating the party "Belarusian Christian Democracy" Kanstantsin Zhukouski stood trial again on Jnaury 31. According to the case's materials, the KGB officers filmed how Zhukouski and his friend glued advertisements about a TV-speech of the presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu on December 1. To the opinion of the special services, the activists broke the legislation having placed the pre-electoral materials in places not specially designated for these aims.

Zhukouski demanded a Russian-Belarusian interpreter at the trial but he was denied. The activist underlined that he had not broken the legislation as those advertisements had not contained any agitation. He turned the court's attention to the fact that the KGB officers had followed him, thus conduting political detection which is forbidden by the Constitution. Zhukouski reminded that the proofs collected with violation of the law have no legal force.

The court considered Zhukouski guilty and fined him for 175 000 roubles.
