Homel policeman punished for detention of opposition member

The policeman who detained the leader of Homel affiliate of the United Civil Party Vasil Palaykou has been punished. The decision on the politician’s complaint was taken by the Office of Public Prosecutor of Savetski District of Homel.
Let us remind you that Palyakou was detained by a district police officer of Savetski District Department of the Interior Andrei Lapuhou. He interrogated the politician and confiscated one and a half thousand appeals to deputies. People’s deputies were suggested giving account of their activities in those leaflets.

The appeals were returned to Palyakou later. The Office of Public Prosecutor informed the politician that Savetski District Department of the interior had conducted a check-up and found a violation of the law in the actions of the district police officer. A disciplinary punishment was imposed on him.

“He was not punished for detaining me and taking away my leaflets. He was punished for making it in an inaccurate way which violated the law”, - said Palyakou in his interview with BelaPAN.
