Interior minister resigns

Belarus' Interior Minister Uladzimir Navumau has resigned citing health reasons. Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has accepted the resignation, said his press office.

Navumau was appointed to the post in September 2000. He was placed on the EU and US travel ban list over suspected involvement in the 1999-2000 disappearances of Lukashenka’s opponents, along with Viktar Sheyman, a former prosecutor general; and Dzmitry Paulichenka, a former commander of an Interior Troops unit.

Interestingly, last year Navumau walked on foot around Belarus' largest lake, Narach. He used to boast of good health.
