Jacek Protasiewicz: EU travel ban for Lukashenka could be re-introduced very easily
Alexander Lukashenka and other high-ranking Belarusian officials could be easily returned on the EU's travel-ban list, Polish member of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz said. “In order to return the situation with the sanctions against Belarusian officials to the status of one month back, the position of only one country is required. This country is the Netherlands. Last week I met with representatives of the Dutch government and was convinced.
The Netherlands is not the only country which is prepared to raise the issue of restoring sanctions against Belarus officials if the situation with human rights in Belarus does not improve significantly in the next five months", the European lawmaker said.
The issue was raised during the final session of the international conference "Belarus: Forming a Space for Changes" that took place on November 11-12 in Kiev. The conference participants expressed doubts that the united Europe possessed efficient mechanisms to trigger democratic changes in Belarus.
