KGB drops criminal charges against youth activist
The Belarus national security service, KGB, has halted criminal prosecution of Andrei Tsyanyuta, a youth activist from Homel, who was charged with acting on behalf of the unregistered organization Malady Front, reports Belapan.
On April 25, Tsyanyuta received a notice from Dzmitry Sedlyarou, a chief investigator at the KGB regional branch, writing that criminal prosecution was stopped and that all the belongings seized during a raid would be returned.
In September 2007, Tsyanyuta was suspected of taking part in the unregistered youth group, Malady Front. The computer's hard drive, leaflets, books and flags were confiscated during the search. The criminal case against the activist was suspended twice.
One month ago, Tsyanyuta sent a complaint to the KGB chairman, demanding to produce or drop criminal charges against him. The complaint was forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office of the Homel Region and was eventually satisfied.
