Lawyer: I hope Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu is alive
The lawyer Tamara Sidarenka has not been provided access to her client Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu so far. He has been kept in the KGB detention center for the 4th day already. This means, she says, there have been no official investigation measures. However, she does not exclude that operative investigators meet with him occasionally. Tamara Sidarenka: “When operative investigators come and summon a person saying "We'd like to talk to you", that means there's no need for a lawyer, allegedly. However, a person have a right not to speak with such people without a lawyer. However, when an official investigator of the case summons a person for a conversation, it is forbidden to conduct investigation measures without a lawyer. Thus, I can say for sure that the investigator of the case does not interrogate Nyaklyaeu. Especially, taking into consideration the fact that we call him all the time asking to clarify this or that”.
However, she said the investigator had not helped her to obtain access to her client yeasterday, on December 22. According to Tamara Sidarenka, in spite of being the first in a queue of lawyers who were waiting for a meeting with their clients, she wasn't admitted to him. The officer on duty kept saying that both cabinets intended for such meetings were occupied. Tamara Sidarenka has filed a complaint to the General public prosecutor's office in this regard, but there have been no reaction so far.
In spite of all the above, Tamara Sidarenka hopes that the information about Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu's death which appeared yesterday in the social networks is not true.
Tamara Sidarenka: “I hope this is not true, just great mystifications. Besides, they accepted the parcel for him. Moreover, I filed a document to the name of the KGB head, demanding that Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu should be allowed to at least sign a complaint to the address of the election commission. I asked them to assist in this issue as I cannot reach my client. I filed this paper by the end of the day. They accepted it and I haven't noticed great worries on their faces. Maybe it is a secret even for the employees. Maybe they are good actors. In any case, I hope this is not true”.
Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu's lawyer will try to meet with the detained politician once again today. However, she says there is new queue today and all the cabinets are occupied again. It is impossible to predict whether the meeting will take place. However, she will wait in the KGB detention center till the last moment.
