Lazavik: Kazulin will be able to run for president if his conviction is expunged

A former political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin is representing the United Democratic Forces at a meeting of the European Parliament in Brussels. He is still one of the best known Belarusian people. Will he be able to run for president? ERB asked the secretary of the Central Election Commission Mikalai Lazavik about it.  M.Lazavik noted that certain limitations including previous convictions were imposed on presidential contenders. 

M.Lazavik: One of the limitations is that only citizens having no previous convictions can become presidential contenders. If his conviction is expunged by the time, he will be able to run for president.

Let us remind you that neither A.Kazulin, nor his lawyer Zmitser Harachka has received the mercy decree that allowed releasing the political prisoner.
