Lukashenka: Russia puts pressure ahead of presidential elections

Russia has attempted to put pressure on Belarus ahead of presidential elections, Belarus leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka said in an interview with Euronews. "I have already observed the trend in Russia's major media -- on Channel One and other. They have begun sketching the presidential elections in Belarus. It is absolutely clear: there has been pressure ahead of presidential polls in Belarus", said Lukashenka.

In the view of Lukashenka, the Russian side "has a burning eye for the state property in Belarus which is today not privatized yet. They wish to grab it cheaply... Secondly, they do not like Lukashenka here, because he is standing firm for the independence, 100 percent. There are also other personal motives that you are well aware of. There are many other issues".

"They don't like our policy. In principle, judging in an imperial way as our journalist says, they wish to keep Belarus within the sphere of their influence. The imperial way of thinking means that one should grab, bend, sqeeze and suffocate", Belarus leader is quoted by Belapan news agency as saying.
