Mediocre students to build nuclear power plant?
Physics and mathematics will be taught at schools even by those who failed the tests. Euroradio explores why the performance rates have dropped to enroll with universities this year.
103,000 people have enrolled with various Belarusian universities. A quarter of them will study at daytime government-funded courses.
Different from the previous years, av average passing make has dropped this year. Even at the Belarus State University with the traditionally highest passing marks, professors felt a drop in the rates.
"The highest passing marks are at the faculty of international relations and economcs. As a whole, 48 percent, enrolled with government-funded course, had a rating of 300 points", says admission committee' secretary at Belarus State University Vyachaslau Malafeyeu.
Bu, in general, the passing rates have decreased, especially for natural science and engineering courses, by 24 points. Some professions had no competition, while constructors of nuclear power plants, investigators and teachers were enrolled with 200 points and less out of possible 400 points.
