Minsk police conduct raid against gypsies

Policemen of Partysanski District of Minsk detained more than 80 gypsies in Stsyapyanka micro-district on February 5. The gypsies were fingerprinted and filmed for the archive. The gypsies accuse the police of tyranny and violation of the existing legislation. Policemen claim that they simply “handled” the district.

Radio “Liberty” reports that policemen detained gypsies like terrorists: the operation was conducted in masks, all the present were made to lie down on the floor or in the snow, gypsies were beaten and their flats were searched.

Some of the detained gypsies claimed that they would complain to the Office of the Public Prosecutor. They will demand that police raids should be organized in a way that would not do harm to kids. They will also demand that people should not be beaten and treated like criminals in front of their neighbours.
