Minskers consume more meat

The residents of Minsk have changed their eating habits over the past several years. Compared to 2000, Minskers consumed less bread, dairy products, eggs, vegetables and potatoes in 2006. They preferred to have meat, fish, fruits and berries on their table. According to the city statistics department, one family spent an average of Br1,157,300 on consumption, including 87.7 percent to pay for products and services in 2006.

Minskers spent half of the family budget to buy goods and services, 37 percent for foodstuffs and outing, a 2.9-percent drop against 2005.

Last year, one Minsker ate an average of 6.1 kg of meat, 25.7 kg of dairy products, 1.4 kg of fish, 6.8 kg of vegetables, 6.7 kg of fruits and berries, 3.8 kg of potatoes, 6.1 kg of bread, 16 eggs per month, reports Minsk-Naviny news agency.
