National Bank “does not recommend” giving dollar credits to citizens

The National Bank of Belarus has sent letters to all commercial banks. It “recommends” that they should stop giving dollar credits to physical entities. A representative of one of Belarusian banks informed the “Interfax” agency about it. According to him, the National Bank explains the recommendation by the aggravating situation in the domestic money-market in Belarus.

Furthermore, banks are recommended to strengthen control over the usage of consumer credits. In fact, it is recommended that consumer credits should be given only for domestic goods. Commercial banks will have to render corresponding accounts to the National Bank.

The press service of the National Bank has refused to comment on the letter.
