NATO is ready to restart political dialogue with Belarus
"NATO is ready to try to restart a political dialogue with Belarus as the Belarusian authorities have made attempts to improve the political situation in the country”, - claimed the Deputy Assistant Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Robert Simons. The representative of NATO noted that “elections in Belarus and the prosecution of Belarusian opposition leaders aroused anxiety in NATO and other international organizations” several years ago. According to him, “the situation in the country has improved a little”.
Simons noted that the desire to develop political relations was “a bilateral process”. He pointed that his arrival in Minsk was the first visit of a higher NATO official over many years. Robert Simons hopes that “a higher Belarusian official” will arrive in Brussels to take part in the Alliance’s meeting of ambassadors.
Furthermore, NATO has decided to expand the relations with the Belarusian Embassy to Brussels and the head of the mission Uladzimir Syanko.
