Opposition activists threatened with criminal case for insulting Lukashenka

Activists of an unregistered organization “Young Belarus” spent the night in prison in Akrestsina Street for their performance.
Andrei Kuzminski, Pavel Prakapovich, Nastassya Mashchava and Yahor Babrou were detained during a performance not far from “Belarus” supermarket in Minsk on December 2.  The young people installed a stand with an image of a man with a moustache. There was an inscription under the cartoon: “If you don’t like the regime – throw it at me”. The youth activists put a box with eggs near the stand. Some people liked the idea and a few eggs hit the stand.

However, participants of the action were detained soon afterwards. According to “Charter-97”, policemen threatened the young people with criminal responsibility according to article 386 of the Criminal Code (Insulting the President of the Republic of Belarus). According to the article, they may be imprisoned for up to two years.

Then it became known that protocols had been drawn up against all the detained. They were accused of having conducted an unauthorized action. The opposition activists will stand trial today.
