Opposition plans awareness campaign targeting brutal officers

The United Civic Party (UCP) will launch a campaign to provide information to the public about law enforcement officers involved in crackdowns on peaceful demonstrators, the opposition party’s leader, Anatol Lyabedzka, told ERB.   Leaflets with images of most brutal police officers and information about their involvement in violence will be distributed among their neighbors and neighbourhood residents.

The campaign has been prompted by a police crackdown on a demonstration staged on Minsk’s Kastrychnitskaya Square on October 16, according to Lyabedzka. "The awareness campaign will create a stress situation for them. These people are afraid of TV cameras and publicity, but they feel comfortable because they have never been held responsible," he added.

Lyabedzka said that he planned to complain to the Prosecutor General’s Office about the mistreatment of the demonstrators.
