PACE to discuss Belarusian election on urgent basis

The members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will discuss the presidential election in Belarus during their session. It has been decided to discuss this issue on an urgent basis on January 27.  The Russian newspaper "Commersant" informs with a reference to a source in the Russian delegation in PACE, the official Moscow is going to formulate its position with regard to the Belarusian election as follows: there were violations during the election in Belarus, the opposition members were oppressed, but the legitimacy of voting is the fact which cannot be doubted. 

At the same time, Europe and the US do not recognise the voting results and intend to punish Minsk with strict sanctions, reports  “Narodnaya Volya”.
