PACE ex-president: Belarus will not enter Council of Europe in today's conditions
Under the current conditions, Belarus will not become a member of the Council of Europe, and the number of member states will remain 47, PACE former president Luis Maria de Puig said at a news conference when he was summing up his term as PACE president, reports Informer.Az. Luis Maria de Puig noted tat despite numerous demands to abolish death penalty, the Belarusian authorities failed to meet this requirement. Moreover, a person was recently executed in Belarus.
"We tried to hold talks with president Lukashenka and other officials in Belarus. But they did not take the position of the Council of Europe into account. This makes Belarus' integration impossible", said Luis Maria de Puig.
