Pavel Seviarynets freed from police custody
Pavel Seviarynets, a co-chairman of the committee that is organizing the Belarusian Christian Democracy party, has walked free after having spent 15 days of administrative arrest in a police custody in Brest. He served his term for allegedly staging "an unauthorized assembly". The news broke last night that Seviarynets had been taken to an undisclosed location. Pavel today told the European Radio for Belarus over the phone that he had indeed been taken to a detention facility in the Northern Town (Brest) around 20:00.
No explanations were given. “They wanted to disrupt my meeting with friends, because they were waiting for me”, says Pavel. He was released at 0400 to be met by about a dozen of supporters who managed to find out where Pavel was being held.
On Tuesday morning Seviarynets was on his way to Niasvizh to attend the trial of local Malady Front activist Nasta Azarka. He also plans today to visit Salihorsk to support Ivan Shyla, a youth activist who is facing similar charges.
