Pinsk journalists urge to restore local independent press
The editor of an independent Pinsk newspaper “Myastsovy Chas” Victar Yarashchuk welcomes the return of “Narodnaya Volya” and “Nasha Niva” newspapers to the legal system of distribution. However, he thinks that attempts to restore the local independent press should be made.
V.Yarashuk: Of course it encourages us but there are local newspapers that need support. For example, the distribution and subscription for “Myastsovy Chas” were forbidden and it was suspended. A lot of money is needed to start printing it again. I do not think that any founder would be able to do it anyway. There are 130 thousand inhabitants in Pinsk. The city has four newspapers, a local FM-station and two TV channels. However, the newspapers are an official district newspaper and entertainment editions. It is difficult to find information about Pinsk District or republican events in them.
Let us remind you that “Myastsovy Chas” has not been out for more than a year.
