Police inquiry into Olympic champion Andrei Aramanov's DUI case
The leadership of Belarus' Interior Ministry sport team has begun an inquiry into the case of Andrei Aramnov, the Olympic Champion in weight-lifting. The athlete was detained in Borisov by the traffic police for driving under the influence of alcohol one day after he celebrated a three-bedroom apartment in Minsk for his golden medal in Beijing. Aramnov had earlier been detained for driving under influence in December 2008, when he was stripped of his driving license for three years and penalized with a heavy fine.
Official comments on Aramnov's case are yet to be released. The Interfax news agency notes that Interior Minister Uladzimir Navumau and Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Hryharau have been informed about the case. Andrei Aramnov is reportedly in training sessions with his team "under the control" of the Weight-Lifting Federation and the leadership of Interior Ministry's sports team.
