Police warn about fines, arrests for firing petards in public places

Firing petards in public places will be treated as a petty hooliganizm, Yauhen Sachak, a spokesman for the Minsk City Police Department told the European Radio for Belarus. “This offence is equal to an act of petty hooliganizm. The Administrative Code of Belarus envisages punishment ranging from a fine of two basic rate to 15 days of arrest. Those responsible will face criminal prosecution if human health or property are damaged”.

According to Sachak, some 100 people faced administrative prosecution for using petards in public places during the season festivities last year.

He reminds that if offenders are younger than 14 years old, their parents will have to cover the fines.
