Portraits of political prisoner Zmicier Dashkevich appear in Asipovichy

Portraits of Zmicier Dashkevich, the jailed leader of the Malady Front youth opposition group, were seen on the streets of the city of Asipovichy in the Mahiliou region. They were pinned to the announcement boards. Local activists of the Malady Front say they wanted to draw attention to the issue of political repressions in Belarus.

Dashkevich was sentenced last year to one and a half years in prison for acting on behalf of an unregistered organization. The youth in Asipovichy yesterday also staged another symbolic action. They sent white-red-white paper boats floating in the central city's fountain, according to the press servoce of the Malady Front.
