There are legal grounds for the abolition of the death penalty in Belarus, Prosecutor General Ryhor Vasilevich said in a live interview with the ONT television channel.
"The Constitution allowes to abolish the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment", he said.

At the same time, the prosecutor general also noted that social conditions should also be in place in order to abolish the death penalty. Vasilevich said that 2 people were sentenced to capital punishment in Belarus last year.
