Public prosecutor's office refuses to start a criminal case upon Aleh Biabenin's death

The term for checking of the Charter'97 journalist Aleh Biabenin's death circumstances expired on December 3. The office's representatives refused to start a criminal case. This was informed to the European Radio for Belarus by the head of the Minsk regional public prosecutor's office's investigation department Siarhej Hupalovich.   Hupalovich: “We have taken the decision not to start a criminal case due to absense of corpus delicti. The materials have been passed to supervising public prosecutors for studying”.

Let us remind you, OSCE experts also investigated the circumstances of Aleh Biabenin's death. They came to the conclusion that it was a suicide on the basis of the provided information. However, Aleh's relatives and friends do not believe that.
