Ex-political prisoner may be sent to top-security colony for 1 year
Vasil Parfyankou’s case is being considered in Minsk Pershamaiski District Court.
Let us remind you that Vasil Parfyankou was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment because of Dec.19 case. He was released with a group of other political prisoners in August 2011. He was put under “preventive supervision” at the beginning of 2012 when he was arrested for taking part in an action of solidarity.
The fact that a criminal case was started against Parfyankou became known in April. He was accused of violating “the preventive supervision regime”.
The prosecutor has demanded to imprison him in a top-security colony for 1 year. Parfyankou has already pronounced his last plea and noted that he will leave the court room as a free person in any case. A break until 2 p.m. has been announced. The court’s decision will be announced after the break.
Politicians, civil activists and diplomats (U.S chargé d'affaires pro tempore Michael Scanlan) are present in court.
