Shopping-entertaining center built at place of uranium ore collection

The company "Asstor-Vest" is conducting the construction. The center is supposed to have 4 floors for the total area of 24 thousand square meters. The ground floor will be occupied by a supermarket; two restaurants, a billiard room and a bowling hall will occupy the upper floors.

Military men were the ones who conducted transposition of the uranium ore from the atomic power plants of the socialist countries. 80-times excess of cesium and strontium threshold limit was registered in the soil then. The soil was taken away from here in 2004. After that, everything got back to normal, assures chief sanitary physician of Brest Henadz Radchanka in an interview to the newspaper "Vecherniy Brest". He refers to several dozens measuring points all aroung the construction site.

However, independent ecologists are concerned about security of approaches to the shopping center. In some places, these are empty spaces which are planned to be built up with office and residential buildings. According to the ecologists, the wind might transmit radio-active dust.
