Russian oligarch Kerimov eyes Belaruskaliy
Suleiman Kerimov, who became a co-holder of Russia's potassium giant Uralkaliy two months ago, wishes to build the biggest potassium company in the world. The Russian business newspaper Vedomosti reports he has been in talks about acquiring Belaruskaliy and Russian company Silvinit. The newspaper reports that Kerimov recently met with Alexander Lukashenka and on behalf of Uralkaliy proposed to buy the controlling shares in Belaruskaliy. If the deal is reached, Kerimov will create the biggest potassium company in the world. The combanied total capacity of Belaruskaliy, Silvinit and Uralkaliy is 20 million tons per year. The capacity of the current leader, Potash Corp is 15 million tons.
Other sourses suggest he is not seeking the controlling shares, as the leadership of Belarus asks two much money ($20-30 billion) for Belaruskaliy.
Belarus leader's spokesman Pavel Lyogki maintains that Lukashenka has not met Kerimov or any other Russian businessman recently. Correspondingly, he could not discuss the sale of Belaruskaliy, Mr Lyogki stressed.
Belaruskaliy is in top three potassium producers in the world. China also eyes this lucrative business.
