Salihorsk activists appeal to stop demolishing of city forest
Civil activists from Salihorsk disseminated an open letter with a demand to stop demolishing of the city forest, on November 24. The petition, signed by more than 20 people, was also submitted to Salihorsk executive committee. One of the petitioners, a human rights activist Aliaksej Valabueu informed that to BelaPAN. According to him, the green belt is cut down for construction of elite residential buildings.
The activists demand to stop demolishing the forest rightaway and include the corresponding amendments into the general city plan. They also demand to check the legality of the decision on land allocation in the park zone.
The activists consider it necessary to conduct an independent ecological expertise on the fact of green belts demolishing in the city. They also demand to conduct civil hearings on the issue.
Valabueu informed that the activists had an intention to start collecting signatures in defense of Salihorsk forest in the near future. They also plan to involve presidential candidates into solving of this problem and file an application for conducting a picket in defense of environment on December 10.
