September 8 - Day of Belarusian Military Honour

Today Belarus celebrates one of the most honourable holidays - the Day of Belarusian Military Honour.
On this very day, back in 1514, the 30-thousand  army of the Great Duchy of Lithuania defeated the 80-thousand Moscow army in the battle on Krapivenka river, when the Russian warriors attempted to occupy the territory of Belarus. One of the key heroes of this Vorsha battle was hetman Kanstantsin Astrozhski. He was the one who leaded the Belarusian army which stopped the Russian expansion for a long time to come. This historical break prolonged the "golden age" of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, when culture and arts flourished in it.
