Smolensk customs officers do not allow importing crocodile, snake and bear from Belarus
Smolensk customs officers have detained an unusual infringer at the Belarusian-Russian border in Yershytski District, reports “Smolensk News”. An inhabitant of Moscow Region of Russia tried to import a whole menagerie without documents from Belarus in his “Mercedes” lorry. Customs officers found a crocodile, a snake, a bear, two dogs and pigeons in the load-box.
According to the infringer, he was bringing the animals back home from a circus tour in Belarus. However, the Moscower had no documents for the live animals. The customs officers have started a criminal case against him. The crocodile and the rest of the company have been handed to the infringer on his own responsibility. It means that he cannot do anything with his pets until the end of the investigation – he cannot sell or lend them. If worst comes to worst, the animals may be confiscated for the illegal attempt to bring them to the Russian territory.
