Smolensk customs prepare a trap for our drivers
In order to liquidate queues at Belarusian border check-point, the Russian Customs Committee allowed entering Russia without having to register your vehicle. However, it only happens if a Belarusian citizen crosses the border in Smolensk Region.
Drivers without this document will be fined in all other Russian regions. The fine may reach half the cost of the car or even the double cost of the vehicle. About 200 Belarusian citizens got caught in the trap last year. They were mainly those who entered Russia in Smolensk Region and decided to leave it in Velikiye Luki or Sebezh.
The problem of special rules in Smolensk Region has become so serious that Vitsebsk custom-house has to use mass media to remind citizens that they should leave Russia from the place they entered it.
