State newspaper “Respublica” promises not to publish provocative materials

A state newspaper “Respublica” has apologized for its recent articles about the late Pope Joann Paul II and the Catholic Church. Let us remind you that an article by Anton Andreenka “New crusaders” was published in “Respublica” on June 15. The Catholic Church and Joann Paul II were insulted in it as the author accused the Pope of connections with Western special services and of “diabolic actions”.

An article “Cardinal is satisfied” was published in the same issue. The Union of Poles of Belarus demanded that the General Office of Public Prosecutor should punish the author and the edition for it. But the editorial staff decided not to go to law.

There is an announcement of the editorial staff published in today’s issue of the edition. It is stressed that the opinion of the author “does not coincide with the opinion of the Belarusian government… or other officials or members of the editorial staff”.

“Respublica” apologized to its readers, the faithful and the Catholic Church and promised not to publish such provocative materials anymore.
