Street actions in Caracas: opposition demonstration dispersed
A group of masked motor-cyclists attacked the demonstrators who demanded precise information on Hugo Chavez' health near the Supreme Court building for a week.
It happened several minutes after the announcement that the President of Venezuela had died.
About 40 students participated in the demonstration. They placed a tent camp near the Supreme Court building and demanded precise information about Hugo Chavez' health during the last week. In the evening on March 5, when Vice-President Nicolas Maduro announced that Chavez was dead, the motor-cyclists, armed with guns, burned down the tents and dispersed the demonstrators.
Meanwhile, Vice-President Maduro, who will rule the country till the next
presidential election, urged Chavez' adherents to gather in Simon Bolivar
Square in Caracas. The people are also gathering near the presidential palace
Miraflores. They keep on chanting "Long Live Chavez! Long Live
Chavizm!" and the revolutionary slogan "El pueblo unido
jamás será vencido" ["As long as we are united we are
undefeated" - Euroradio].
A 7-days mourning is announced in Venezuela since Friday, the day of Hugo Chavez' funeral. Venezuelan schools will also be closed for this time.
