Swedish NGO activist denied entry to Belarus
The Belarusian border guards have denied entrance to this country to Natalya Alexeeva, a project manager from the Stockholm-based Olof Palme International Center who arrived at the Minsk International Airport in the night of November 12.
Hanna Kanyus, the leader of the Brest city organization of the Belarusian Social Demoratic Party (Hramada} told Belapan that the Alexeeva telephoned herserlf to inform about the incident. Natalya Alexeeva has cooperated with the Social Democrats in Brest for many year.
Alexeeva lives in Sweden but has a double citzenship: Swedish and Russia. He travelled to Belarus twice in the course of 2007. This time, she arrived together with a representative of the Swedish organization Verdandi in order to plan joint projects aimed at assisting the citizens of Homel and Svetlahorsk that suffer from alcohol and drugs addiction.
Her collegue had no problem to entre Belarus. The Belarus border guards declined a comment on this situation
